Healing from Complex Trauma with Hypnotherapy
Understanding What Happened. Releasing What No Longer Serves.
Trauma can leave deep emotional imprints that don’t always make logical sense—because they live in the subconscious mind.
Some people are aware they’ve experienced trauma. Others simply feel anxious, stuck, exhausted, or not quite themselves… and don’t understand why. Hypnotherapy can help uncover, understand, and gently release these buried patterns.
What Is Trauma?
At its core, trauma is any experience where your system perceives danger—and you feel powerless to stop it or escape it.
There are two kinds of trauma:
-
Simple trauma happens in a single event, like a car accident, assault, or sudden loss.
-
Complex trauma develops over time, through repeated or ongoing experiences that overwhelm your nervous system.
-
This can include:
-
Living with someone unpredictable, critical, or unsafe
-
Emotional neglect or abandonment
-
Growing up with inconsistent care or having to be the “adult” as a child
-
Losses that piled up too quickly to process
-
Having your basic human needs—like safety, respect, or unconditional love—unmet
Four Core Roots of Complex Trauma:
-
Abuse – Not just physical, but emotional: criticism, name-calling, humiliation, mockery. This can come from parents, siblings, teachers, partners, or others in positions of power.
-
Neglect – When emotional or physical needs aren’t met. This might look like a parent who wasn’t available, who minimized your feelings, or who wasn’t there when you needed support.
-
Abandonment – Whether through divorce, death, adoption, or a parent’s absence. What matters is your experience at the time—not the event itself. Even temporary separation can feel like abandonment to a child.
-
Unmet Needs – We all need safety, love, respect, connection, boundaries, belonging, and validation. When these core needs go unmet—especially for long periods—your subconscious learns to adapt in ways that can affect your adult life.
-
Trauma Lives in the Body and Mind
Science now confirms what many have long sensed: trauma affects your entire system—emotionally, mentally, and physically.
Chronic trauma has been linked to:
-
Anxiety, depression, PTSD
-
ADD/ADHD and learning difficulties
-
Addictions
-
Sleep and eating disorders
-
Sexual dysfunction
-
Phobias, panic attacks, and dissociation
-
Relationship struggles
-
Low self-worth
-
Over-responsibility, people-pleasing, perfectionism
-
Shame, guilt, trust issues, or feeling “not enough”
These aren’t personal flaws. They’re adaptive coping mechanisms your subconscious created to help you survive. And they’re often still running—even if they’re no longer needed.
The Subconscious Doesn’t Know Time
The subconscious doesn’t process time the way your conscious mind does. So even if you know something is over, your body and emotional mind might still be reacting as if it's happening right now.
This is why we can’t always “think” our way out of trauma.
How Hypnotherapy Helps Heal Complex Trauma
In my practice, I take a client-centered approach to hypnotherapy. That means every session is personalized for you, based on your history, goals, needs, and personality.
I don’t offer cookie-cutter scripts or one-size-fits-all techniques.
We go to the root—gently, safely, and in a way that works for your mind.
Here’s what our work might include:
-
Personalized Plans – We begin with an in-depth consultation so I can understand your history and goals, and create a strategy that’s fully tailored to you.
-
Exploration Without Re-Traumatization – You don’t need to relive the past. Instead, we gently uncover the patterns that formed, and work to release their influence on your present life.
-
Reframing the Past – Through hypnotherapy, we help your subconscious understand that the trauma is over—and that you are safe now. This allows your nervous system to settle and your responses to shift.
-
Releasing Emotional Charge – We use techniques to remove the emotional “sting” of painful memories, so they no longer hold power over you.
-
Restoring Inner Safety – Hypnotherapy supports your subconscious in developing new, healthy beliefs that promote self-worth, boundaries, emotional connection, and trust.
You Are Not Broken—You Adapted
The habits, behaviors, and emotional patterns you’ve developed were all attempts to protect yourself. And they worked—at one time.
But if they’re no longer helping you…
If they’re holding you back…
If you're ready to feel safe being yourself again…
Then it’s time to gently let them go.
